This morning I was listening to a gospel song, “Reach out and touch the Lord as He goes by” and it reminded me of a saying I heard several years ago, “When God passes by, go sit in that window again.” I can’t remember who to give credit for the quote but it strikes true in my life and it reminds me to have gratitude for all that God has done in my life.

Sometimes I can get bummed out by the twists and turns that life throws at us and forget about all the times that God has helped and been with me through it all. When I turn my will and my life over to the care of God I have learned that it is not going to be a bed of roses, but that there will be high times and lows times but most of the times somewhere in between.

The times that are most difficult I am reminded of gratitude. Many years ago when I was single and living alone, with no drivers license, and having to ride a bicycle at 52 years of age. All of this because of bad decisions that I had made, it was easy to get down on myself and get bummed out. I was told by my spiritual mentor Wayne Hart to make a gratitude list of everything that I was grateful for, and to look at it from time to time. On my list I had my salvation, God in my life, sobriety, health, a place to live, family both church and natural, and friends who supported my recovery. It’s kinda hard to be bummed out long realizing everything good in my life and how God has been there all along. I consider gratitude to be a spiritual force not just a mental thought or appreciation.

Today I try and have gratitude for God who has done for me what I could not do for myself. Thanks for letting me share….Jerry
